Scouts have been wearing scarves loosely knotted around their necks since 1911.

To keep with tradition, the newly formed Epping North Scout Group wants to design its own scarf – with input from the community.

Group leader Cara Horner is running a competition for the best-designed scarf.

The most appealing entries will be shortlisted to a “top 10” and a winner will be voted on at the group’s “Come Try Scouting” event on October 16 at Epping Views Primary School.

“The community is very excited to have a scout group coming to Epping North to support the area’s young people and their families,” Ms Horner said.

“We need the community to get involved and support the new group, including becoming a leader or committee member.”

She said the competition was a great way to get children involved.

Both hand-drawn and computer-generated designs will be accepted. For guidelines and a design template, go to www.facebook.com/ENScouts.

The deadline for entries is September 18.
