Craigieburn’s gas network is set to be upgraded in a bid to improve gas supply to the suburb.
Many Craigieburn residents took to social media on July 3 to complain they were without hot water. Others were unable to use gas stovetops or were without heating.
AusNet Services has confirmed the suburb experienced a supply problem, with increased demand for gas resulting in customers experiencing low or no gas pressure that evening.
Residents say the supply problem is a recurring issue during winter.
An AusNet Services spokeswoman said the company last week received approval from Hume council and VicRoads to begin the upgrade.
“This project upgrade will see four kilometres of additional gas pipeline laid underground which will connect two parts of the existing network,” the spokeswoman said.
“This will improve the gas supply to residents in the Craigieburn area.
“We would like to sincerely apologise to customers impacted by mow or no gas pressure.
AusNet Services said the works would take place at the intersection of Mickleham and Craigieburn roads and supply interruptions are anticipated during the upgrade.
It is expected the upgrade will be completed in October.
