Volunteers from the Sikh community have once again rallied to lend a hand to families in need during the lockdown.

Australian Sikh Support recently delivered fruit and vegetable boxes and other essential items to families in Hume and Brimbank who were isolating or experiencing financial hardship, as well as international students who have lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic.

The organisation made similar deliveries during the first lockdown.

An Australian Sikh Support’s Gurjit Singh said the group was also operating in South Australia, with 75 care packages delivered across both states in the past week.

He said the organisation had delivered more than 2000 food essential boxes to Victorian students since mid-March, while more than 250 families have received regular deliveries of fruit, vegetables, household items and baby products.

“Our main aim is to help the community or needy,” Mr Singh said.

“When we came to Australia as a student 13 years ago, we only had two bags, Through the hard work, Australia [has] given us everything and now is the time to return and serve our nation.”
