Hume council will inspect 6500 properties between now and January, 2022 in an effort to prepare the area for the fire danger period.
According to the council, the fire danger period is when fire services restrict the use of fire in the community, in order to help prevent fires from starting and keep the community safe.
In a post to the Hume City Council Facebook page, council said the fire danger period is predicted to be declared in December or early January.
The council has already commenced inspections of vacant land to ensure it is fire ready, the post said.
“Every year we undertake a range of different fire management activities including increased roadside grass cutting, cutting fire breaks in conservation areas, mowing parks and reserves and maintaining fire access roads,” the post said.
“Everyone has a role to play in preparing for the fire season.”
Council has provided more information about what it is doing for fire safety, how to prepare property, and multilingual resources on its website.
