Broadmeadows tyre fire puts residents on alert

Residents of Broadmeadows and surrounding suburbs were issued with an advice warning after a fire at a tyre recycling plant yesterday.

More than 35 Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters responded to the Maygar Boulevard fire just before 1.25pm on Sunday.

FRV said attending firefighters found a 20 metre by 50 metre pile of tyres alight and issuing a significant amount of smoke.

Winds posed additional challenges, spreading the fire further, according to FRV.

The scene was brought under control at 2.25pm.

An advice warning was issued for surrounding suburbs, with people advised to close all windows and stay indoors due to smoke.
