Burn offs planned for Craigieburn area

Craigieburn residents are being warned to expect to see smoke over the coming three weeks as bushfire prevention burns are carried out.

Crews from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria will begin their Autumn program of planned burns as soon as weather and fuel conditions are considered safe.

In the days before the burns are carried out, DELWP staff will doorknock nearby residents and businesses to ensure they’re aware of the burn off activities.

DELWP forest fire management district manager Dan White said he did not want to cause fear among the community following the fires in Lancefield last November and December that broke containment lines.

“We want to reassure them that the smoke on this occasion will be from a planned burn,” he said.

Mr White said the first burn would be conducted in the next two-to-three weeks.

If you experience any symptoms that may be due to smoke inhalation, seek medical advice or call Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24.
