T20 reaches the sharp end

Rivergum and Lalor Warriors are among the sides through to the qualifying finals of the Northern Region T20 competition.

The competition pits clubs from the Diamond Valley and North Metro cricket associations against one another to find the best T20 side in the region.

Rivergum, the competition leaders in the NMCA’s Jika Shield, beat Ivanhoe with one over remaining in the elimination final on Tuesday night.

Ivanhoe made 9-105, Sean Neary and Matthew Perri each taking three wickets.

An unbeaten 46 from Alex Jesensek guided Rivergum to 4-106.

Fellow NMCA side Lalor Warriors had a field day with the bat against Bundoora United, with Michael Rogneda making 64 and Aaron Wheatley 59 out 7-181.

United was all out for 148 in reply, Rogneda, Nick Christie and Delcus taking two wickets each.

DVCA sides Lalor Stars and Plenty joined them in the qualifying finals.

Stars, who play in the DVCA’s second grade, beat higher-ranked Epping.

Batting first, the Stars made 6-144 on the back of 55 from David Worthington, who then took 5-20 to help bowl out Epping for 113.

Plenty was able to chase down Heidelberg’s 8-117 in its match, reaching 5-120.

Macleod, Panton Hill, North Eltham Wanderers and Diamond Creek are also through to the qualifying finals.
