Greenvale United Soccer Club started 10 years ago with one team and just 14 players . . . this season there were eight men’s sides, three women’s teams, and 215 players.
This year is also the club’s first at Greenvale, after training and playing at Dallas for almost a decade while waiting for its own ground to be developed.
And next year marks the date set aside for the club’s long-awaited pavilion with, it’s hoped, new clubrooms soon afterwards.
Club coach and president Hilmi Mina is hopeful of an influx of new members for next season, which starts in February, and he’d also dearly love to have local sponsors on board.
Telstra, through soccer dad Michael Augello, has already given the club a large sun umbrella and a mobile barbecue. Plans for the club rooms have to go through a lengthy approval process.
