AFL draft: Cannons possible, Knights certain to feature

The 2013 AFL national draft will be held at the Gold Coast National Convention Centre on Thursday.

While no Calder Cannons are certainties to be picked up, there is growing optimism that some Cannons players in this year’s graduating class may make AFL lists.

Calder’s run to the TAC Cup preliminary finals helped give extra exposure to the team’s top-age players after none were retained to the end of Vic Metro’s under-18 national championships.

From the Northern Knights, it appears to be a question of not if, but where, Marcus Bontempelli (Eltham) will go, with the tall midfielder shaping up as a potential first-round pick.

Ben Lennon (Macleod) is also highly likely to find his way to an AFL club.
