The $5.2-million Central Ranges trade training centre has opened at Whittlesea Secondary College, giving students an improved chance of securing trade apprenticeships.
Principal Terry Twomey said the centre, which was opened by Skills
and Training Minister Brendan O’Connor yesterday, was a federal
government-funded project involving nine secondary schools and providing
training in automotive, engineering and building and construction
trades.
Mr Twomey said the Whittlesea hub would offer training up to
certificate 3 level for schools in the consortium, which were mainly
based to the north of Whittlesea, including such areas as Broadford and
Kilmore.
He said students in years 10-12 would get industry-standard
vocational education training with an opportunity for the broader
community to use the facility after hours.
“The centre provides young people with access to higher-level
courses that provide a pathway to their chosen trades career,” Mr Twomey
said.
