Bundoora’s brilliant start to the Northern Football League season continued on Saturday, the Bulls beating Montmorency 19.13 (127) to 13.11 (89) in a rematch of last season’s grand final.
The Magpies led by two points at quarter-time but managed only one goal in the second quarter as Bundoora skipped to a 27-point half-time lead.
The Bulls controlled much of the second half, booting six goals in the third quarter and five in the last in the 38-point win. Cameron Cloke was best on ground with seven goals, with Gary Moorcroft snaring four.
Whittlesea fell four points short of an inaugural division 1 victory against Heidelberg. A low-scoring game for three quarters, there were nine goals in the final term, with the Tigers just edging out the Eagles 11.14 (80) to 11.11 (77).
In division 2, Lalor enjoyed a 16.16 (112) to 8.6 (54) win against Hurstbridge, Spencer Christopher leading the way with four goals.
A strong defensive display from Epping gave the Blues a 12.15 (87) to 9.11 (65) win against Panton Hill.
Epping jumped to a 31-point lead by three-quarter time, with Panton Hill managing just 1.4 in the second and third quarters.
