Lani’s long ride in memory of younger sister ‘Flea’

Sunbury’s Lani Bullen will mount her bike tomorrow and set off on a journey from Tylden to Broome to honour her younger sister Elke.

Elke, affectionately known as Flea, died from cystic fibrosis in 2007 at the age of 16. Tomorrow would have been her 23rd birthday.

Ms Bullen has her eyes firmly fixed on accomplishing her sister’s dream of going to Broome and she will ride 4961 kilometres to get there. “The main thing will be to go to the beach and have fish and chips as I think that’s what Flea would have done,” she said.

To mark the beginning of Lani’s Ride for Flea, residents are invited to share in the departure day celebrations to be held at the Tylden Community hall from 8am-10am.

A barbecue breakfast will be provided, with all proceeds going to Cystic Fibrosis Australia.

Macedon Ranges mayor Roger Jukes will ride to Kyneton alongside Ms Bullen when the ride officially begins at 10am. Ms Bullen has so far raised $13,166 of her $30,000 target.
