Summer Smash underway

Diamond Valley Cricket Association’s Summer smash competition got underway on Tuesday night with plenty of excitement.

Running for second straight season, teams play 100 ball innings within their shield competition.

Clubs are split into pools before finals to decide an overall winner in each shield competition.

In the Barclay Shield competition, Epping started with a win against Bundoora in pool A.

The Pingers made 5-143 from their overs with Tom Emmins top scoring with 52 at the top of the order.

Michael Fullelove took 2-24 for the Bulls.

At 1-59 the Bulls were in charge before they crumbled to finish 8-107.

Naman Sharma took 3-11 for the Pingers.

In the other match, Riverside beat Bundoora United

Riverside made 4-204 from its overs with Mackenzie Stanley making 115 off 44 balls.

The Bulldogs fell well short, finishing 9-124.

Sam Harbinson top scored with 45at the top of the order

In pool B, Rosanna and North Eltham Wanderers were the winners.

In Money Shield, the competition will kick off this Tuesday.

Among the matches is Lalor Stars against Mernda.

In the Mash Shield, Thomastown United won the battle between the two Thomastown clubs.

United made 8-110 from its overs with Anton Basanisi top scoring with 36.

Nick Nteris and Shahid Ahmed took two wickets each.

After losing an early wicket, Thomastown progressed to 1-81.

The wickets started to fall and it halted Thomastown’s run.

It fell just short, finishing 7-106. Ahmed top scored with 38 at the top of the order.

In pool C, Hurstbridge beat Laurimar.

Hurstbridge made 7-119 from its overs,

Patrick Richardson and William Nyman took two wickets each.

The Power finished 8-86 in reply.

Skipper Luke Richardson top scored with 19 not out.
