In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Whittlesea Men’s Shed has completed a major renovation of the spectator benches at the Whittlesea Showgrounds, breathing new life into a vital part of the Whittlesea Eagles AFL Club’s home.
Led by Prakash Dhana, with dedicated support from shed members Bill, Charlie, Dan and Riwan, the project focused on reusing and recycling the existing timber and metal structures.
The result?
A refreshed seating area that saved the Eagles thousands and preserved a slice of club history.
“WMS was very pleased to work alongside the Whittlesea Eagles and the Whittlesea Showgrounds and Recreation Reserves Committee of Management,” WMS president Eric Gunstone said.
“Under the leadership of Prakash Dhana, our members worked tirelessly to refurbish the old benches, ensuring cost savings while maintaining the integrity of the showgrounds.
The payment received for this work further supports our social initiatives and ongoing sustainability.”
Whittlesea Eagles President Luke Fraumono praised the shed’s work.
“Their advice led us to refurbish rather than replace the benches, saving us a significant amount of money. The quality of work is outstanding, and the benches will continue to serve our spectators for many years while preserving a part of our club’s history,” Mr Fraumono said.
Committee chair Graeme Hunter added “This project strengthens our relationships and enhances the Showgrounds…preserving the history and amenity of this space is crucial.”
