City flying at 2-0

Hume City has kicked off its National Premier League season with a bang winning the first two games of the year.

In round one Hume defeated Dandenong Thunder 2-1, with a dramatic late goal by new recruit Lloyd Isgrove, on the weekend Hume continued on its winning ways defeating Green Gully 2-0.

“Two in two is a great way to start and I think it’s just important to have a good start in the competition because the league can ebb and flow and a good start can help later on in the season,” coach Cameron Watson said.

“More importantly, we’ve been really happy with the boys’ performance, not just the starting tem but everyone that’s contributed off the bench.

“Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and putting in the effort to make sure that we’ve got off on the right foot.

Isgrove has had an immediate impact on his new club, not only scoring in both matches but with what he brings off the pitch Watson said.

“He’s on a bit of a roll which we hope lasts a long time,” he said.

“He’s had a great impact on not just the goals, but everything, his professionalism, what he brings to the change room. He’s not just a good player but a really good person.”

This week Hume has a longer break with South Melbourne to come on Monday night.

South is one of the other two remaining undefeated sides, meaning one team’s zero will have to go in round three.

“Overall we’re happy but there’s a lot to go through and a lot to work on and tighten up before Monday’s game,” Watson said.

“Everyone knows they are a good team and have had a successful few years and are very hard to beat, especially at home.

“We’ve got a bit of a longer week so we’ll get an extra training session in which is nice, so we don’t have to rush.

“We’re looking forward to it, it’s a great place to go and play and it’s another chance to do what we’ve been working on and play another really good team.”
