Kalkallo community now has its first permanent recreation facility with a new multi-purpose pavilion built to meet the needs of the growing and diverse area.
On Saturday, June 25, Hume mayor Carly Moore and Yuroke MP Ros Spence officially opened the Kalkallo Recreation Reserve Pavilion in Cloverton, celebrating with a Festival of Sport community day.
Community members were treated to sporting drills hosted by local clubs, face painting, giant-sized games, as well as food to enjoy.
The reserve is also the new home to sporting teams, the Hume Bombers Football Club, and the Donnybrook Cricket Club.
A total of $13 million has been injected into this project, with $1.5 million in funding from the state Labor government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and another $1.5 million from Hume council.
It features a large social room, two sets of change rooms, including gender inclusive change areas, two umpire rooms, a kitchen area, office space, storage rooms as well as landscaping and a viewing area.
Upgrades included two playing fields for cricket and football, cricket nets, a volleyball court, basketball half courts, BBQ area, playground, pavilion, tennis courts and outdoor fitness stations.
Yuroke MP Ros Spence said the delivery of the reserve would cater to a growing community in Melbourne’s outer north.
“This fantastic new sport and recreation facility will make a huge difference to our local community by providing greater opportunities for healthy outdoor activities,” Ms Spence said.
Hume mayor Carly Moore said the facility was “vital” to the community and offered “a great opportunity for people to connect, be active and enjoy the outdoors.”
