Builder appointed for Craigieburn Community Hospital

A building contractor has been appointed for the construction of Craigieburn Community Hospital (UNSPLASH/ Ümit Y?ld?r?m).

Families in Melbourne’s outer north will soon be able to access integrated healthcare services closer to home, with a builder appointed for the construction of the Craigieburn Community Hospital.

Yuroke MP Ros Spence today (June 27) announced that Lendlease Building Contractors will lead the construction of the hospital, which will create hundreds of local jobs in the area.

The hospital is one of 10 new community hospitals being built in some of the state’s fastest growing suburbs and forms part of a $675 million investment by the Victorian Labor government.

Craigieburn Community Hospital will be a small public facility operated by Northern Health and will offer services including urgent care for minor injuries and illnesses, day hospital services including dialysis, paediatric services, allied health, and community mental health services.

Construction of the hospital will alleviate the pressure off nearby major hospitals including the Northern Hospital in Epping- allowing them to focus on critical care, surgeries, emergencies, and trauma.

“Our local community is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. That’s why we’re getting on with the job of building this much-needed new community hospital so more local families will be able to manage their health needs closer to home,” Ms Spence said.

Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, construction of the Craigieburn Community Hospital is expected to start later this year and be completed in 2024.

Once operational, the ten community hospitals across Victoria will have the capacity to treat at least 114,000 more urgent care patients, 55,000 dialysis treatments and enable more than 100,000 additional allied health sessions each year.

The Community Hospital program will create an estimated 1,900 jobs during planning and construction and deliver more than 1,000 healthcare jobs once completed.
