Residents urged to get their booster shot

Residents of Hume are being encouraged to get their booster shot after a new sub variant of COVID-19 was reported.

More than 95 per cent of locals aged 16 and over have received their two doses of the COVID vaccine but only 50 per cent have had their third dose.

A spokesperson from the Department of Health said the best thing people of Hume can do is to get their third dose as soon as they’re eligible.

“There is clear data showing a third dose decreases the chances of being hospitalised by 90 per cent.”

More than 50 pop-up vaccination hubs have run in Hume this year with two fixed sites at the Broadmeadows Town Hall and Campbellfield Ford Complex drive-through.

“We’re calling and texting thousands of eligible Victorians every week to remind them their third dose is due, including through geo-targeted SMS for parts of the state where we know third dose coverage is lower.”

Hume was one of the worst hit municipalities during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, making up a third of the state’s daily case numbers at the time.
