Australian tennis star Dylan Alcott will be on court tomorrow in the Victorian Wheelchair Tennis Open quad final at the Hume Tennis and Community Centre.
Alcott, who has announced he will retire following this year’s Australian Open, won through to the final with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Canada’s Robert Shaw on Tuesday.
He will either play Netherlands’ Niels Vink or Sam Schroder in the final.
It’s the first time the event has been held at Hume, with the men’s and women’s players also taking to the court.
Alcott, the number one seed, is hoping to end his career on a high in his home town, after winning all four majors last year and Olympic gold last year.
The event is the first in a big couple of weeks for the centre, with the Melbourne Wheelchair Tennis Open starting on Saturday.
The tournament will see men and women’s singles and doubles matches, along with quad singles and doubles taking place.
Stockland is sponsoring both tournaments.
Stockland Highlands project director James Westh encouraged local residents to come down and watch some of the best players in the world take to the court.
“All year round, our residents get to enjoy the Hume Tennis and Community Centre to stay fit and active,” he said.
“It’s an annual highlight to host the players and spectators at our world class facilities, watch great tennis and soak up the atmosphere of the Wheelchair Tennis Open.
