Epping opens the season strong

Epping opened the Diamond Valley Cricket Association Barclay Shield season with a strong performance against Research Eltham Collegians.

After round one was washed out, the Pingers made the most of getting out on the park.

Epping elected to bat, but got off to a slow start, losing three wickets early.

They steadied with Josh Henkel making 70 and Todd Hughes contributing with 66.

The Pingers finished its innings at 7-252.

The Collegians were consistent throughout their innings, but were hurt by Epping taking constant wickets.

The Collegians were bowled out for 206 with nearly seven overs remaining.

John Kulikowski and Hughes took three wickets each, while Robert Tinsley took two.

Epping will play against Riverside this weekend.

In the Money Shield competition, Bundoora United and Bundoora came away with wins.

Bundoora United beat Eltham, making 199, while restricting Eltham to 176.

Bundoora in its match with Plenty made 175, with Plenty falling short, making 8-141.

Montmorency took the win against Bundoora Park, making 4-210.

Bundoora Park was bowled out for 192 in reply.

Old Paradians lost to Rosebank. The Old Paradians made 133, while Rosebank made the runs with ease, finishing 3-134.

Lalor Stars dominated Mernda, making 9-212 before restricting Mernda to 132.

The Mash Shield competition’s second round resulted in victories for Whittlesea, Thomastown United and Thomastown.

Whittlesea beat Hurstbridge in a low scoring affair, After making 126, the Eagles restricted 126 Hurstbridge to 105.

Thomastown United made 2-158 in reply to Laurimar’s 8-157.

Thomastown made 152 before restricting South Morang to 9-90.

Lower Plenty took the win against Mill Park.
