Epping Cricket Club is backing the fundraising efforts of one of their own, with an activity day this weekend.

Steve Trowbridge’s son Levi was diagnosed with KCNQ2 Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy when he was mere weeks old.

The rare genetic condition does not have a cure.

Mr Trowbridge has subsequently started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for research into a cure, and will be running the Melbourne Half Marathon in December.

Mr Trowbridge’s local cricket club, Epping, is holding a fundraising event this Sunday, November 28, in order to aid his fundraising efforts.

“Instead of sponsoring a sort of lump sum of money, they’ve [the club] set up this day to hopefully raise more money,” Mr Trowbridge said.

“They thought it’d be better to have an event where there’s things to do and more chances to raise money.

“It’s going to be a family event… we’re expecting between 50 and 100 people.”

The entry fee along with bar sales and proceeds from a raffle wheel will go towards the GoFundMe, which so far has close to $11,445.

Mr Trowbridge said the support has been amazing.

“Words can’t describe it,” he said.

“When I started the page, I said even if I just get $1000, I’d be happy.

“By the end of the first night it was up, we hit over $3500.

“I’m lost for words, and extremely proud of the achievement.”

The Levi’s Fundraiser event will start at 12pm on Sunday, November 28, and donations can be made online.
