Roxburgh Park, Coolaroo residents urged to get tested

Roxburgh Park and Coolaroo residents are being urged to get tested for COVID-19 “as a matter of urgency” following virus fragments being detected in the area’s wastewater.

It comes as a positive COVID-19 case from Roxburgh Park was included in today’s total case numbers and Victoria’s lockdown was extended by seven days.

COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said the Roxburgh Park case was “still under investigation”.

It is believed the case was active in the community for part of their infectious period.

“We believe there are strong connections to the City of Hume outbreak,” Mr Weimar said.

The Roxburgh Park case was among 13 new locally acquired cases recorded yesterday, with the total number of active cases in Victoria at 85.

Eighteen thousand primary close contacts of those cases had been identified, Mr Weimar said.

Fourteen cases have been linked to the MCG, including nine who attended the Carlton-Geelong match on Saturday, July 10.

Victoria’s current lockdown has been extended until Tuesday, July 27.

Premier Daniel Andrews said “more time is required” to stamp out the current Delta variant outbreak.

There are only five reasons to leave home; to get the food and supplies you need; for exercise for up to two hours and no more than five kilometres from your home; for care or caregiving; work or education if you can’t do it from home; or to get vaccinated at the nearest possible location.

Face masks remain compulsory indoors at all times except at home, and outdoors at all times.
