Parking upgrades at two train stations has been delayed due to stage four lockdown.

Work on parking at Craigieburn train station has been halted, while the start of work at Epping station has been postponed.

Victrack said on its website that the works had been halted to reduce the amount of people travelling around and help lower the number of COVID-19 cases.

“We’ll start works again in line with directions from the Chief Health Officer,” the website said.

“Once it’s clear how this pause in construction affects the timeline for completing the car park projects, we will let you know.

“Project-related works that are not based on site will continue to be undertaken remotely.”

Craigieburn station will have 745 new parking spaces as part of the upgrade, with additional bicycle parking, multiple entry and exit ramps, improved pedestrian access and more safety and security measures.

The new parking spaces were due to open mid-2020 after being announced last year.

Epping station will get 74 more car parks as two new parking areas are constructed.

There will also be new bicycle parking in a bid to encourage people to travel from Epping instead of going to other stations.

Work was originally scheduled to be finished by the end of this year.
