Police are investigating a fire at a COVID-19 testing site in Mernda on Monday night.

Three CFA units from Mernda and Doreen attended the Waterview Drive site in Mernda at 10.40pm after one of two security guards on duty at the closed site noticed a fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished but caused minor damage to the side of a marquee.

One of the security guards was treated by Ambulance Victoria for minor smoke inhalation. He was later cleared to return to work.

A CFA spokesperson said that the scene was handed over to Victorian Police at 10.52pm.

Police investigators want to speak to three men, aged in their 20s, who were spoken to by the security guards shortly before the fire started.

The testing site will remain closed until further notice.

The nearest testing sites are at Pacific Epping Shopping Centre or at the Northern Hospital.
