The Greenvale Kangaroos continued on their winnings way in the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket competition north west A one-day competition.

The winners of the T20 competition, the Kangaroos have shown they are the team to beat in the longer format as well.

Kangaroos captain Catherine Morrow said for a lot of the side it’s their first time playing the longer format.

She said it can be hard changing from playing 20 overs an innings matches to 36 overs an innings matches.

“The young players have really stepped up,” she said. “A lot have come from junior cricket where they don’t play the longer format.

“They are working extremely hard and getting better each week. They’re doing the extra work and I’m pretty proud of the players.

“They’ve adapted really well. We’re doing all the one percenters well which is helping us win games.”

Morrow said they still have areas that they can work on, but were definitely heading in the right direction.

On Sunday, the Kangaroos defeated the Altona Roosters.

The Kangaroos made 8-150 from their overs with Morrow top scoring with 32 not out off 27 balls.

It’s just Morrow’s third bat of the one-day competition, as she looks to give the younger players an opportunity.

“We want to give everyone an opportunity,” she said.

“We haven’t batted all the way down the order a lot and it’s something we want to do before finals.

“I’m enjoying not batting. They are the future and the more opportunity we give them in the middle the bigger and better they will be.”

Morrow said they thought they had enough runs on the board, with a strong bowling attack and a side that has been fielding well.

The Kangaroos restricted the Roosters to 7-76 in reply.

Honey Raut took two wickets for the Kangaroos.

Greenvale sits 10 points clear on top of the ladder.

Morrow said they were focusing on just getting better each week and then seeing what happens.

“Hopefully everyone keeps learning throughout and it will help come finals time.”

Meanwhile, Craigieburn got its third win of the season beating Tullamarine.

The under strength Demons made 4-114 with Helen Harris making 56 not out at the top of the order.

The Eagles made the runs with ease, finishing 7-115.

The Demons sit in fifth with Craigieburn in sixth on the same amount of points.
