Fielding women’s sides for a second season, the Kangaroos have shown a lot of improvement, having gone up a grade this year.
Wanting to step their game up a level, the Kangaroos sit second with two rounds remaining in the north-west A competition.
If they can stay there, they will play off in the grand final.
Kangaroos captain Catherine Morrow said they had been thrilled with how the side had come together this year.
Just four players played for the Kangaroos last season.
“The young players have stepped up and done a really good job for us,” she said.
“I’ve coached most of them before so I’m aware of the talent they have. As a new team, I personally wanted us to do well.
“Everyone is getting along really well and there’s a real team environment across the three sides at the club.
“I think it has helped us winning early games.”
Morrow said it was some of the young players that had impressed her most and had taken the next step.
She highlighted Nikita Chaudhary, who had come across from Sydenham-Hillside with her and Aarzu Mavi as two players who had taken their games to the next level.
“Nikita is 12-years-old and done a sensational job so far,” she said.
“She’s a standout kid and will hopefully get better and better.
“Aarzu Mavi played last year and has really come along with her bowling and is confident in the field.”
The Kangaroos had a bye on the weekend.
They need one win out of their final two matches to seal a grand final berth against Ballarat Women’s, which is already assured a grand final spot.
Morrow said making the grand final would be a really good achievement.
“We want to play off in the grand final,” she said.
“We’re doing it for not just us, but the other two senior teams at the club as well.
“Hopefully we can get there.”
Morrow said their second side had been really competitive, with a number of players playing senior cricket for the first time.
Many were playing both junior and senior cricket this season.
Their third side has only just started the season and has played four matches.
Morrow said with the club’s ambition to have a premier cricket side in the next couple of years, all results were important.
“As a club, the female division is doing really well.
“What we are doing is about developing them so they can play in a higher grade down the track.
“It’s important to keep the young players developing.”
