Police rammed and man shot in Greenvale

A man is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot by an Australian Federal Police officer in Greenvale.

Police are investigating whether the man was involved in two supermarket ram raids in Sunbury and Westmeadows this morning.

Police were called to a Sunbury supermarket just before 3.50am after a dark-coloured Nissan Navara was seen towing an ATM away from the store.

They were then called to a supermarket in Westmeadows about 4.40am, following reports of a break-in.

Police said a truck, trailer and bobcat were left inside the store.

A police divisional van from Broadmeadows was rammed at the intersection of Providence Road and Felix Lane, Greenvale just after 4.40am.

Police believe a dark-coloured Nissan Navara was involved in the ramming. The circumstances leading up to the ramming are being investigated.

Police said two Australian Federal Police officers heard the ramming incident over the radio and responded to check on the welfare of the Broadmeadows officers.

The AFP officers stopped a suspect vehicle at the intersection of Providence Road and Section Road, Greenvale shortly after 4.50am.

Police said the officers were fired at as they approached the vehicle, with one of the AFP officers firing back and striking one of the men in the vehicle

Both men were arrested and a firearm was seized.

The injured man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and remains under police guard.

A dark-coloured Nissan Navara was found burnt out on Elphingstone Street, Greenvale. Police believe it is linked to the burglaries and ramming.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incidents or has knowledge of those involved to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
