Residents of a Craigieburn nursing home are proving you are never too old to learn new things.
A group of six residents from Arcare Craigieburn home have been taking part in Spanish lessons over the past eight months in a bid to better communicate with the home’s three Spanish residents.
The language classes are run once a month by Arcare volunteer Danielle Abarca, with residents also taking part in study group twice a week to practice their skills.
Arcare’s regular Bingo sessions are also now run in both English and Spanish.
Arcare lifestyle co-ordinator Kayla Garside said the classes started as a way to help the Spanish speaking residents socialise more.
“There has definitely been a lot of friendships formed as a result of the classes,” she said.
“The residents are finding it quite difficult to learn Spanish, as am I, but we are getting there.”
Ms Garside said the nursing home was looking to begin Spanish movie nights and was in the process of translating its activity calendar into Spanish.
