Jacana starts under lights

Jacana will host the opening match of the Essendon District Football League season.

The Jaguars will host Burnside Heights in a division 2 clash under lights on April 5, with other teams to get underway the following day.

The match should mark the return of Cameron Cloke to the Jaguars.

Division 2 will have nine teams this season, with the Sunbury Kangaroos and Keilor Park returning after not having a team last season.

Sunbury Kangaroos will start life in EDFL division 2 with a home clash against Northern Saints on April 6.

East Sunbury will also start its season at home, facing Coburg Districts.

The two Sunbury teams will face each other for the first time in a twilight fixture in round two and will also play each other in round 11.

In premier division, Greenvale will face Pascoe Vale in the opening round. The Jets will play their first home match the following week against Maribyrnong Park.

Promoted Roxburgh Park will make its division 1 debut against West Coburg, which is returning to division 1 after being relegated.

Local rivals Westmeadows and Tullamarine have a round one meeting, while Craigieburn has to wait a week to start its season, having a bye in round one. Westmeadows will again play on Anzac Day, this year playing away to Oak Park.

Hillside and Taylors Lakes will again play on Good Friday, as will Strathmore and Keilor.

The league will host its grand finals over three successive weekends, with the division 2 grand final on September 7, the division 1 grand final the following Saturday and the season ending with the premier division grand final on September 21.
