Greenvale is expanding its female football program with plans to have a full complement of sides next year.
The Jets have had girl’s sides in the Essendon District Football League for the last two seasons, but now plan to expand to have a women’s side for the first time.
Jets’ president Bruce Kent said it was the perfect time for the club to make the move into women’s football.
A new facility has been built at the club’s second oval especially for female players, at both the football and cricket clubs.
He said the old building used by the girl’s sides wasn’t up to scratch to accommodate female footballers.
“We have one of the best pavilions in the business now,” he said.
“It’s been purpose built [for females] so it’s the natural progression to expand into women’s football.
“It’s all pretty exciting.”
Kent said they already had about 10 women express interest in joining their women’s side.
He said some of their under-18s would progress into that side, while some locals who are playing elsewhere are set to join the club.
Kent said they were in the process of starting to interview for a coach for the women’s side.
The club is holding a come and try night on Friday night for all age groups.
“Anyone interested in joining can come down and see how it is,” Kent said.
The Jets are also planning to have a Superrules side next year for the first time.
Kent said they looked like fielding 27 sides across all age groups.
The female trial night is on Friday night between 6-8pm at Greenvale Football Club oval number 2.
