Young star takes out Northern Knights best and fairest

The signs are bright for the Northern Knights with bottom-age player Josh D’Intinosante taking out Brent Harvey best and fairest award last week.

The small forward who hails from South Morang Junior Football Club, is the first bottom-age player to win the best and fairest since former Melbourne skipper Jack Grimes in 2006.

D’Intinosante was consistent across the whole season, polling in all but one of the 16 games he played in. His tackling is a strength of his game, with him putting a lot of pressure on defenders.

D’Intinosante won the award on 87 votes, 11 votes clear of captain Braedyn Gillard.

Giliard played just 10 games after breaking his elbow in the middle of the year, before returning for the final three games of the season.

Adam Carafa finished third,  22 votes behind D’Intinosante.

Other award winners included Sam Philp who took out the Adam Simpson Coaches Award and Lachlan Potter who won the Michael Mascoulis Rising Star Award as the best bottom age player.

Sunny Brazier (Anthony Rocca leading goal kicker),  Stefan Uzelac and Joel Randall (tied for the Chris Johnson best defensive player award), Justin McInerney (most improved), Brody Bell (best clubman) and Ryan Sturgess (Technika Core Values Award) were other award winners.

Brett Potter was awarded life membership at the club. He’s had a number of roles in his time at the club, including his current role as under-16 head coach.
