Celebrate your inner geek at Whittlesea libraries

It’s time to let your inner geek shine.

Staff at Yarra Plenty Regional Library are embracing their inner geeks throughout May, with a month of science and comic book-inspired fun.

YPRL marketing and media co-ordinator Marieclaire Baird said the ‘Geek the Library’ events were a nod to Library and Information Week, which runs from May 21-27.

“We want everyone to discover all the amazing things they can find in a library including the more unexpected … comic con, robots, drum machines, escape room, drone, virtual reality, filmmaking and more,” she said.

The fun kicks off with a May the Fourth Be With You Day at Lalor library on Friday, May 4.

Library patrons can mark the Star Wars-inspired day by dressing up, making a mini light sabre or Star Wars character mask, and having their photo taken in a galaxy far, far away with the help of the library’s green screen.

The event runs from 3.30-4.30pm.

Other events include comic con at Mill Park library on Saturday, May 19, featuring popular comics, fan clubs, super heroes, video games, cosplay and more, and a Star Trek discussion night, also at Mill Park library, on Wednesday, May 30.
