Here’s a quick look at some of the sporting news from across Whittlesea, Hume, Sunbury, the Macedon Ranges and Melton.

Northern FL

Whittlesea has signed former Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs player Justin Sherman as a playing assistant coach. Sherman, who played 136 games across the two AFL clubs, joins the Northern Football League club after playing with Pascoe Vale and Kyabram since being delisted by the Bulldogs.

VSDCA

Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows’ horror start to the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association season continued with its loss to Mt Waverley on Saturday. In a short match due to poor weather, the Falcons made 9-168 off its 37 overs. Mitch Streiff top-scored with 41. Mt Waverley finished on 5-171. Last season’s grand finalists are winless this season after three rounds.

VTCA

Greenvale Kangaroos secured first innings points against Hampton half-way through its Victorian Turf Cricket Association’s senior division clash. The Kangaroos bowled Hampton out for just 74, with Tarek Moughanie and Peter Manser taking three wickets each. In reply, the Kangaroos were 3-167 at stumps of day one. Moughanie finished the day on 77 not out. Tullamarine and Bonbeach will play a one-day match next week after play was cancelled due to rain.

Netball

Macedon Netball Club will hold trials this month for its senior netball teams for next year’s Riddell League season. The Cats, runners-up in the 2015 A-grade competition, are seeking players for the under-19, C-grade, B-grade and A-grade teams. Those interested must register by November 9 for trials at Tony Clarke Reserve on November 14 and 21. Details: macedoncatsfnclub@gmail.com, 0437584675 or 0404095 659.

Bowls

Sunbury suffered a thrilling loss to Broadmeadows in Bowls Victoria division 2, section 2 pennant on Saturday. Sunbury’s Mark Cowan (16-15) and Carla Odgers (23-16) won their rinks and Elise Cowan split hers. But it wasn’t enough and Sunbury went down 74 (13)-71 (5). Sunbury is now second on the ladder.

RDFL

Matt Gilmore has joined Riddell District Football League club Melton Centrals. The full-forward is crossing over from Birchip Watchem club in the North Central Football League. Gilmore looks a perfect fit for Centrals, who struggled to hit the scoreboard at times during the 2015 season. A lead-up forward, Gilmore kicked 53 goals last season.
