Shooting for holiday fun

It’s time to hit the court, shoot some hoops and slam-dunk.

The second-ever Wyndham Basketball Championship will be held at Eagle Stadium in Werribee this week.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said the competition was expected to attract hundreds of young people.

“Last year ,16 teams competed and more than 100 people watched the final match,” he said.

“This year the word is out that it’s back and we’re expecting a great turnout.

“Anyone can take part the competition, with two age groups available to enter – 12 to 15 and 16 to 25 years.”

Teams with five members can enter the tournament, which will be held from 10am on Friday (April 13).

“Apart from being a great day of basketball, it’s also a great chance for council to engage with young people in our community,” Cr Maynard said.

“Youth services staff will be on hand during the day to answer any questions about the services we offer to help young people out.”

Teams must register for the tournament by visiting facebook.com/youthinwyndham or calling 8375 2346. Registration costs $2.
