Hobsons Bay community members have until the end of this month to have their say on two draft council policies that will shape the development of sport and recreational assets.
The policies will determine the council’s financial and in-kind contribution and occupancy agreements for use of local facilities.
As reported by
Star Weekly, local football clubs have said they would have to start turning away players due to a lack of facilities able to cope with growing numbers entering the sport.
Also as reported, plans have fallen through for a new sports centre at Williamstown North.
Mayor Sandra Wilson said Hobsons Bay had 35 sports reserves with 50 pavilions, 81 sports grounds and 48 hard courts that were used by more than 80 local clubs.
“There are constraints on what council can spend, so this is about working smarter in how we invest in future facilities,” she said. “It’s about getting the best possible return in terms of sporting and recreational uses for our community.”
The draft policies are the
Capital development of sport and recreation facilities policy and the Sport and recreation facilities – licence, lease and hire sport and agreements policy.
