Going up in the world

Three significant trees in Hobsons Bay have been nominated for National Trust heritage listing.

The trees were listed under the mayoral program of Cr Sandra Wilson.

The trees are a Moreton Bay fig at Logan Reserve in Altona, a river red gum behind Truganina Explosives Reserve near Laverton Creek, and a Canary Island date palm at Altona Coastal Park.

“In Hobsons Bay, we love our trees,” Cr Wilson said. “Anyone can register a significant tree on the National Tree Register.

“Doing this in my mayoral term is one way of demonstrating that ‘I speak for the trees’ just like the Lorax (Dr Seuss character).”

More trees will be nominated over the coming year.
