Police are confident they will solve the brutal murder of a man in Doreen four months ago, but have appealed for more public help.
Detective Inspector John Potter of the Homicide Squad has revealed that Christopher John Meade had facial injuries and was bashed to death with fists in his Kiora Avenue home on June 28.
He said it had ‘‘all the hallmarks of some sort of debt’’.
‘‘We think Mr Meade knew his killer,’’ Inspector Potter said. ‘‘He has been assaulted, possibly by more than one person, and there was no evidence of forced entry.’’
He said that police believed a white ute seen near Mr Meade’s house was definitely involved in the 29-year-old’s murder.
‘‘We have had further calls to Crime Stoppers and are now confident the white ute is involved in Mr Meade’s death,’’ he said. ‘‘Based on our investigations, we are confident that we can solve this but we are after some crucial evidence.’’
The VE Holden ute with a hard-style tarp, mag wheels and a green P plate in the rear window was seen near Mr Meade’s house before his body was discovered by friends at 8.45pm.
The ute was not seen after the body was discovered, nor was it seen in any of the surrounding areas after the crime, Inspector Potter said. He said police were waiting on forensic results including fingerprints and ‘‘trace DNA’’ from the crime scene.
Inspector Potter said police had identified ‘‘persons of interest’’ who could be involved but needed further evidence to link them to the crime. People with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
