RESIDENTS of an Epping North housing estate with bus stops but no buses are fed up with the lack of public transport, according to the Aurora Community Association.
The association wants Aurora estate residents to join its transport working group to lobby for significant improvements, says its president, Toni-Marie Wuelfert.
“Without public transport, many of the residents are isolated and the long delays [due to] road congestion are putting families at risk,” she said.
“These transport issues are seriously worsening as the state government continues to largely ignore them.”
She called on residents to join the group at a meeting on Wednesday, October 31, to “improve and increase advocacy and activism on transport issues in Epping North”.
She said key public transport issues were:
■ Lack of public transport in the Epping North area, including the estate having bus stops but no buses.
■ The estate being designed around a train line that does not exist.
■ Forty-minute intervals between buses on the 575 route.
■ Limited connections between the 575 bus and trains.
She said there was increasing road congestion on High Street, Miller Street, North Epping, and the Findon Road and High Street intersection.
“The association realised we needed a more active response from the community working together to implement a strategy for the area,” she said.
The association’s first transport working group meeting will be on Wednesday, October 31, 7.30pm at Whittlesea council offices, Ferres Boulevard, South Morang.
