Craigieburn teacher on write path

AFTER teaching for more than 20 years Beryl (Christie) Mills-Darlow has a few stories to tell.

The primary school teacher has published her first picture book, My Beach Granny, about a boy who spends his school holidays at the beach with his adventurous grandmother.

“I was inspired to write the book when a friend became a grandmother, and tied it with my love of the beach,” the teacher at Willmott Park Primary School in Craigieburn said. “The little boy in the book thinks his granny is best in the whole wide world.

“They go swimming and granny even teaches her grandson how to surf. Together they picnic, explore rock pools looking for cuttlefish and crabs and go fishing on the pier.”

My Beach Granny, illustrated by Peter Scannell, costs $14.50 and is available through the publisher’s website, sbpra.com/BerylCMills-Darlow.
