Students have swapped a classroom for a bowling rink in an initiative at Peter Lalor Vocational College.
The school has won a NAB Schools First Program $15,000 grant to introduce a ‘‘positive education’’ program in partnership with Victoria University.
As part of the program, the students enjoy ‘‘happiness Tuesdays’’ where they do things that make them happy such as bowling, art, cooking, sport or jewellery making.
The program is designed to improve academic achievement, attendance and negative attitudes towards school.
Assistant principal Kath Kenny said the positive education program helped students to identify their top character strengths and ways to approach life with an optimistic rather than pessimistic attitude.
