Police target Epping rock throwers

POLICE began targeting offenders on Monday after a spate of rock throwing attacks on buses in Epping and Mill Park.

Plain clothes and uniform police will blitz the bus routes during the school holidays.

There have been more than 20 rock throwing incidents around McDonalds Road, Epping in the past nine months.

In the latest attack last week, an object was thrown from a moving car at a bus on McDonalds Road.

Police suspect most culprits were teenagers and would ‘‘ramp up’’ patrols over the school holidays, focusing on the Epping skate park and areas along McDonalds Road, transit police Senior Sergeant Patrick Allen said.

‘‘Despite local police engaging with schools in the area, the rock throwing incidents are continuing and this is a real concern to police,” he said.

“Throwing rocks at any vehicle is incredibly dangerous and unacceptable.

“The risk of serious injury or death is extremely high in incidents such as this and police will not hesitate to charge anyone found to be involved.”
