A toxic-smoke alert has been issued following a blaze at a factory in Campbellfield this morning.
Two men are being treated for burns following an explosion at the scrap metal yard in Bolinda Road late this morning.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Fire Brigade said black, toxic smoke was drifting towards the Glenroy, Fawkner and Coburg areas.
Nearby factories have been evacuated as a safety precaution.
More than 10 fire trucks battled the blaze and firefighters had it contained about noon but smoke continued to billow from the site.
At one stage the blaze threatened a property next door.
