The Medics
Foundations
The Medics’ debut album kicks off with a rousing anthem in Beggars, announcing the arrival of this hot new Queensland act which has been burning up the Triple J airwaves and hitting the live gigs hard this year.
This is a heartfelt and energised brand of indie rock, with track after track crying out for some open-air cruising come summer. Joseph is a call to arms with shouty chorus and sharp guitars.
Deadman immediately follows, taking things down a notch or two with floaty lyrics and dreamy soundscapes, just in time for Slow Burn to kick things into gear again. There’s a stripped-back, acoustic charm to 50 Years.
Deftly balancing laid-back, blissed-out tracks with rowdier rocky numbers, the Medics have a touch of Bloc Party about them. Keep an eye on these guys.
