LITERACY and numeracy funding will have to be cancelled at Lalor Primary School to cover a shortfall in funds needed to remove post-construction hazards, according to principal Anne Hulett.
The introduction of electronic smart boards has also had to be shelved after the state government told her no more funds were available.
The school opened three weeks ago to a completed building but incomplete grounds.
On their first day at school, the 350 pupils had to wade through pools of mud.
“The teachers are wearing gumboots, as am I,” Ms Hulett said.
No funds were left for landscaping after the state government took out a total of $300,000 from the $7.5 million allocated for building the school, she said.
An education department spokesperson said: “The school has previously agreed to contribute additional funding for landscaping.”
