London 2012: Draper out, Lay fights hard in singles

ARTHURS Creek resident Warwick Draper has been eliminated from the Canoe Slalom Kayak Single (K1).

Needing to place 15th or higher to go through to the semi final, Draper was ranked 18th overall, 11.59 seconds behind the pacesetter, Germany’s Hannes Aigner.

Draper finished 16th in both his runs with times of 93.20 (+2sec pen) and 93.08 (+2sec pen). Competitors are judged on the better of their two times, and Draper was 2.11 seconds behind 15th placed Kazuki Yazawa of Japan.

In table tennis, Bundoora’s Jian Fang Lay has been eliminated from the women’s singles in the second round, going down three games to four against France’s Xue Li.

Lay won her first round match against Brazil’s Ligia Silva 4-1, winning in 26 minutes, but met her match in Li, who won the first two games.

By the fourth game Lay was down 3-1, and she won the next two 11-9 11-9, but went down 6-11 in the deciding game.
