South Morang substation to secure supply

WHITTLESEA’S future power supply will be secured through the construction of a $20 million sub-station at South Morang.

The area has experienced large growth in electricity demand from new residential and commercial developments, said a spokesman for electricity company SP AusNet, Lyall Johnson.

The new 66-kilovolt substation at the South Morang terminal station on McDonalds Road would be less intrusive than similar-sized facilities, Mr Johnson said.

“The design of the substation shows SP AusNet takes its community responsibilities very seriously and is keen to work with the local community to provide the best outcome possible,” he said.

Whittlesea council last week approved the removal of three small trees for the development while nine mature river red gums were protected under the application.
