Hundreds of gym enthusiasts are awaiting news of the Epping Fitness First centre’s fate.
The High Street gym is one of the 24 of 97 Fitness First clubs to be put on the market as part of a restructure to offload a global debt of almost $900 million.
Epping club member Vanessa Patrick, 25 (pictured), said she would hate to see it close.
“I’ve got such a great deal that I’d never be able to get anywhere else,” she said.
Ms Patrick, a La Trobe University student, said the gym had not told her much, except that the Epping facility was being taken over.
The company’s national operations manager, Michele Harding, promised the sale would include a clause that the new owners honour members’ contracts and retain staff. She would not put a sale price on the Epping club nor confirm membership numbers, believed to be in the hundreds. “We’re open to any discussion,” she said.
