Epping mental health workers flag 24-hour strike

MENTAL health workers in Epping will consider longer stop-works in a bid to resolve an industrial dispute with the state government that has dragged on for nine months.

The workers have been holding rolling two-hour strikes at multiple sites, including Heidelberg’s Austin Hospital, St Vincent’s hospital and Melbourne Health Northern in Epping.

The Health and Community Services Union will hold a statewide stop-work at Trades Hall this Thursday to decide whether to step up industrial action.

HACSU state secretary Lloyd Williams said there were still fundamental differences on pay, working conditions and workload to be resolved.

He said the meeting would consider 24-hour stoppages.

Mental Health Minister Mary Wooldridge’s spokesman Michael Moore said the government would continue to work towards an agreement.
