Shaun Wilson-Miller: Gentle son was ’an absolute fighter’

CAMERON Miller’s eulogy for his son, Shaun Wilson-Miller.

Shaun you were my son, my best mate.

You loved the simple things in life like watching The Simpsons, Family Guy, the wrestling, honey and soy chips, Zombie Chews, your Xbox, the mighty Bombers and, of course, Facebook.

You loved our table tennis games, nanna’s toasted jaffles, sleeping in, watching footy with poppy John and our games of pool. Sometimes we would play to the best of 20. It was always close but you would get upset if I won because you were gentle on the outside but an absolute fighter on the inside.

We would sing songs in the car at the top of our voices and you thought it was funny when we stopped at the lights and I would keep singing.

You loved dinner down the road at the Langones and you thought Eleanor was an amazing cook. Your favourite dish was her spaghetti and meatballs.

You were surrounded by people who loved you unconditionally, including nanna, poppy John, Sus, Ken and Sally.

You thought it was funny that Sus was always on your back about doing your homework and being on Facebook late at night when he should have been in bed.

My partner Sally was like a mum to Shaun, always loving and always helpful with love advice when it come to Maddy.

Even when Sally went overseas to Prague for work, Shaun would inbox her daily back and forth.

And Shaun’s friends. He had some very special friends: Maddy, Kane, Josh, Zav and Nick were amazed by your strength and positivity.

There were many fun times and laughter in the lounge room when they came over.

They, too, have lost a great mate but they have gained a role model and a reason to aim high in life.

To Maddy, Shaun’s girlfriend, the bravest girl in the world. The gift of your love lit up Shaun’s world like no one else could.

Once you were his girlfriend he said, ‘‘I have it all now’’ and she ‘‘ticked all the boxes’’.

And to Zane, there are no words to describe how much you meant to Shaun.

Our family can never express our gratitude for the comfort and wisdom you provided to him, and to our family.

Shaun, I love you with my heart and soul.

You told me not to cry for you, and as tough as that is I will try to honour you.

A friend of mine sent me this poem for Shaun and I would like to read this for you:

An angel you are, were, and forever will be,

sent to earth to ignite the flame within us all to remember why we came

Just as God sent his only beloved son to save the world.

He has come, he is gone and he will come again.

To all who knew Shaun, for however long – or short,

he spread his message of peace and love,

to be loved, and to know love – to the fullest –

unconditionally, just as he loved.

As young as Shaun was, to us who know him, he was ageless

– a leader, a friend, a dear loved one

who will continue to spread his message of peace and love

in all that he did during his short stay

with everyone who passed his way

a messages he leaves for us all,

from here to Heaven, forever more.

Our beautiful boy, forever young.
