Fun at the fair
Families will have a ball at the upcoming Mernda Community Fair with an indoor market, live music, jumping castle, petting zoo and clowns. The Mernda District Residents’ Association is organising what it claims is the area’s first fair to bring together the diverse members of its community on June 24 from noon to 4pm at Buttercross Park. Community groups will have stalls demonstrating their activities.
Hospitality course
A course in Certificate II in Hospitality starts on July 16 at the Preston Reservoir Adult Community Education centre. It will run on Mondays and Thursdays for 11 weeks at PRACE, Merrilands Community Centre, corner Asquith and Sturdee streets, Reservoir.

Country tunes
Adam Harvey, winner of a 2012 Golden Guitar country music award, is coming to South Morang. Harvey won the award for album of the year for Falling Into Place to add to his collection of seven Golden Guitar awards and other trophies. He will play at the Commercial Hotel on Saturday, June 23. It costs $60 for dinner and the show or $33 for the show only.

Quilts are hot
They are a crafty lot in Mill Park, where the local community centre has had to start a fourth patchwork quilting course because of demand. The new course runs Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm and costs $100 a term. It is one of 30 courses available each week.

Bring back buses
The Bring Back the Buses Action Group will stage a rally at South Morang train station at 4.30 pm on Friday, June 8. The group will demand the return of bus stops in Plenty Valley Westfield shopping centre. Details: contact Helen at bringbackthebus@hotmail.com.au or 0425 725 998.
